Loving yourself and your loved ones
>> February 2, 2009
So in my last post I talked about love. In that same spirit I wanted to talk about taking care of yourself. Respecting yourself enough to treat your body like it deserves to be treated. Eating healthy, exercising regularly. These are things we know we should be doing, but how many of us do... I really believe this goes to how we feel about ourselves. For instance. I feed my children REALLY well. I mean they eat mostly organic, whole grains, little dairy products, little sugar, fruits and veggies (even if I have to sneak it to them). And then what do I eat for lunch after I fed them?? A bag of chips... or worse.. nothing! This year I have been trying to eat more healthfully, more mindfully. I have been making an effort to eat more fruits and veggies. I have also gotten back into regular exercise. Nothing major, but walking a bit more, doing yoga in the mornings, that sort of thing.
But I also want to help Mike. He is over weight and his BMI is dangerously high, which scares me. Luckily for me. I am a healthy weight, I would LOVE to loose 15 pounds, but it's not a big deal. But Mike does need to loose weight. And I am going to help him. Usually he leaves here in the morning without breakfast, drinks coffee (with tons of sugar) all day. Grabs a candy bar or something from Mcdonald's, then eats alot when he gets home because his body is starving. Not a good cycle! So we talked this weekend and I am going to start preparing breakfast for him every morning, and sending him with a healthy lunch and snacks. It is not something he will do for himself because he is so busy at work and at home. But I want to do this for him. He usually gets a good dinner when he gets home, and he has to make the effort to not eat before bed. It's not so much a diet as it is a lifestyle change. He is in amazing shape tough. He can go out a run for miles, it's amazing!!! So I know for him it's all about the food.
Wish us luck!!
(the above picture has nothing to do with this post, lol)

Sebrina - you should check out a book called "The Eat Clean Diet Book" by Tosca Reno.
We started back in September using some of her tips (not all) but lots! We love her food ideas too.
Check it out! We both are feeling much better and Yvan who was about 10 pounds heavier than he should be shed the wait in about 3 months.
Sorry for being so long :)
First of all....I LOVE that picture!!! I know I've mentioned my thing for water pic's before but you really have gone over the top with this one! The clarity in the water droplet showing the pattern on the wall behind...wow!! you should enter this is some kind of contest!!
"It's not so much a diet as it is a lifestyle change." I really think this is so key!! It is amazing how many aspects of ones life can be effected by a change in what we eat!
rana i will check out that book, thanks!
Good for you!!! Another step on the path to self-love and continued love for your partner!
Changing the way Diego and I eat began with a book called The Omnivore's Dilemma. This book takes you through where your food comes from in 4 different human food chains. I also read the follow up called In Defense of Food which talks about the fallacy of "nutritionism" and our obsession with being healthy but still dying of food related disease like heart disease, etc. Both are from Micheal Pollan and I highly recommend them both. It is sad to know that "food" is really scary!! Now if only I could get Diego to the gym! ; )
all great ideas ... you can do it and so can he !!
now the photo represents long and lean...drink lots of water(not sugary coffee!)
Good one ELK!! I don't take sugar in my tea or coffee, but hubby does so he needs to cut back
I'm sure you can do it... new year new start!
Picture amazes me! Love it!
Good luck to Mike. I am on a quest to lose weight too. If you find the magic cure...post it. =]
GORGEOUS photo! I really need to make a lifestyle change, too. Most of the time I do okay, but then I have serious moments of weakness, like tonight when I got home late from work. Popped a bag of microwave popcorn and ate the whole thing in about 15 minutes. Not good. Now it is almost midnight and I'm hungry, but I will not eat. That would also not be good. Thanks for this post. It is good motivation.
Beautiful photo.
Good luck with your life style change. I too want to lose a few kilos. Unfortunately exercise is out of the question unless is a walk to the park. I wanted to join a Gym but the ones with babysitting facilities only offer these services during working hours & to kids under 7 years old. Not really fitting for a full time working, single mother, so I have to be really careful what I eat. We are buying a Wii fit this month and I want to use it as a fun family exercise.
I cannot think of a more beautiful gift of love to give: nourishment every day.
you've inspired me to get back on track.
Beautiful post (and picture) Sebrina. I agree with some of the comments - being healthier is a lifestyle so it's not only about the food - mind, body and soul. We have to remember that we don't ALL need the same things to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We have to figure out what our unique body needs to stay on a healthy balance. Yes, it's all about Balance.
Best of Luck to you two on this adventure.
Let's do this together. Getting my yeast under control is a big step for me in losing the sugar cravings, so hopefully I too can back to eating healthfully w/o the sugar. Maybe Mike and I can work on losing weight together. Mom xo
Good idea :)
