Is your birthday a big deal?
>> January 13, 2009
My birthday is next week.. no big deal to me. Birthdays were never made into a big deal when I was growing up. I remember a few birthday party's but I remember Christmas being a much bigger deal. Bigger presents, bigger party.. ect. Guess that is why I love Christmas so much. But now that I am an adult Christmas for me is not a day. It's a whole season, it's a feeling in my heart. That's what I love! But in Mike's family Birthdays were a much bigger deal.. and I tend to agree with that now that I have my own children. When their birthday's roll around I get all excited. This is a day to celebrate! The day that brought my children into this world whether I was birthing them or not it is still so special to me. I will always make a big deal about it even when they are grown. Mike makes a big deal about my birthday. He gives me a whole weekend. Whichever weekend is closer to my actual birthday is my birthday weekend and of course I get the actual day too. I get breakfast in bed, special coffee's, he usually takes the kids out to give me time at home alone. He wants my dinner to be perfect, he wants me to have the best cake. I know if we had more money he would buy me the biggest gifts. So why I wonder, do I not make a big deal out of my own birthday. Why do I not celebrate the day of my birth like I do that of others. This year I am trying to change the way I think about myself and since my birthday is coming up I plan to get excited about it. I am going to celebrate my own birthday :)

I've always loved celebrating my own birthday but then again, I think I'm the type of person to. LOL!
Have fun celebrating your day! Any big plans for yourself? A day at the spa perhaps?!
I like the way your husband thinks! My birthdays were special when I was young but not so special since middle-age:)
Why don't you and I plan to have some time together on the weekend after your birthday. Maybe lunch?? Whatcha think? Mom xo
PS That's not in place of your birthday dinner this Saturday!
Birthdays were never a big deal in my childhood either... one big present, a cake, and a 'did you do your chores?'
But the hubs fam celebrated them with flair.... Now that we're married I realized what I missed as a kid... I love my birthday his whole family makes it a big deal including my man.
I Love Birthdays!! :)
You should celebrate your birthday. If you make a big deal of your children's. The day you were born was the first step of them coming into this world. You're a wonderful woman, make your birthday all it can be.
Love you.
Great attitude! Happy almost birthday and, um, where can i find me a Mike?? :)
Nope, I don't get excited about my birthday but this year I will = 50 ! I've been excitedly waiting for this number for a few years, can't wait. This one I will pamper myself with a few special events (and I don't mean a huge party in a community hall somewheres either).
My birthday is no big deal, well I do get treats, but the older I get the less fuss about me I want:) I like the whole weekend idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy birthday chica!
Recently, I have made it a point to go on a vacation for my birthday. Being as though it's in Sept, it falls at just the right time to do so. In 2007, we went to Las Vegas (my very first trip!) and 2008 we went to Atlanta. This year.....soon to be announced! haha
That is such a great idea!! When my kids are grown I am going to go on a trip every year also :)
