Children Learn What They Live
>> January 30, 2009
My mom posted this poem on her blog and I just love it.
Children Learn What They Live
If a child lives with criticism ~ He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility ~ He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule ~ He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame ~ He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance ~ He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement ~ He learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise ~ He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness ~ He learns justice.
If a child lives with security ~ He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval ~ He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship ~
He learns to find love in the world.

Being a young mother this poem really hit me because I'm at fault for some of the not so happy lines... Thank you for grounding me...
Gorgeous photo
We are all guilty of this at sometimes. I know I am. But as long as we are aware and apologize if we catch ourselves then I think our children will be just fine.
That is a splendid photo! Makes me wanna screw on my macro :)
I actually learned from some of the mistakes my mom made. i.e. how bad she was with money......I'm a saving machine! haha
I love this poem! Every time I read it I feel affirmed and propelled. Now, why I haven't printed it out and stuck it on the wall yet I don't know. Maybe so that I can be pleasantly surprised when I came across it, posted by someone wonderful, like I did today. Thanks!
I think most of those are very true. I was very shy growing up, due to constantly changing schools, not due to ridicule. They are good reminders, however, for people with children. We do shape their lives.
Excellent image!! Nice dof and some lovely bokeh. :)
PS I'm moving my blog to my own domain - should be active this weekend. I see you added me to your inspiration list - how cool is that!! I'll add you to mine when I transfer my blogroll over and I'll let you know my new web address. :)

My mom had this poem taped to the inside of her bathroom cabinet for years and years when I was a kid.
